Congresswoman Lauren Boebert has announced her support for H.R. 5009, the Servicemember Quality of Life Improvement and National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2025 (FY25 NDAA). This legislation, passed by the House with a vote of 281-140, focuses on funding national defense and improving conditions for servicemembers.

Boebert stated, "Ensuring our patriotic men and women in uniform have the resources they need to safely accomplish their missions is one of the foremost duties of Congress." She highlighted that the bill aims to cut more than $30 billion from inefficient programs and deter aggression from adversaries like China while supporting allies such as Israel.

The FY25 NDAA incorporates elements from Boebert's own bill, H.R. 4596, which reauthorizes fish recovery programs in Colorado. It also includes two amendments proposed by Boebert: prohibiting Department of Defense contracts with entities boycotting Israel and banning federal funding for certain working groups within the military.

According to Majority Whip Tom Emmer, the act builds on previous Republican efforts to focus military resources on deterrence rather than what he described as "wokeness." The legislation fully funds national defense with a budget increase of $9 billion over FY24 levels while cutting costs through efficiency measures.

Key provisions include a pay raise for junior enlisted servicemembers, improvements in housing maintenance, increased access to childcare and medical care, and support for military spouses. Additionally, it authorizes significant funding aimed at deterring Chinese Communist Party aggression and bolstering Taiwan's defense capabilities.

The act also emphasizes oversight and accountability within the Department of Defense (DoD), ensuring compliance with performance requirements and cracking down on contractor waste. Measures are included to enhance congressional oversight and support law enforcement operations along U.S. borders.

In conclusion, Boebert expressed confidence that under future leadership changes in Washington D.C., there would be renewed strength in America's military forces.
