U.S. Congresswoman Lauren Boebert's bipartisan Zip Code bill, H.R. 8753, has passed unanimously in the U.S. House of Representatives and now moves to the Senate for consideration. The bill aims to provide unique zip codes for 51 cities and towns across the country, including several in Colorado such as Silver Cliff, Lone Tree, Castle Pines, Centennial, Severance, Greenwood Village, and Superior.

Congresswoman Boebert stated that "after years of small cities and towns across America being ignored," she is proud to have advanced this legislation through the House. She highlighted the benefits a unique zip code would bring to communities by retaining tax revenue locally and improving emergency response times.

Castle Pines Mayor Tracy Engerman commented on the local impact: "I've seen firsthand how the lack of a unique ZIP code impacts our residents' daily lives - from emergency response delays to sales tax revenue misallocations." She expressed support for legislative efforts addressing ZIP code reform as a national issue.

Severance Mayor Matt Fries also noted potential improvements in infrastructure funding and emergency services with a unique zip code. He expressed appreciation for Boebert's work and hopes for swift Senate approval.

Castle Pines Councilwoman Deborah Mulvey emphasized that a unique zip code could ensure proper tax allocation for community development needs. Similarly, Lone Tree Mayor Marissa Harmon praised the proposed legislation as essential for enhancing service delivery and community identity.

Silver Cliff Mayor Buck Wenzel described how his town suffered financially since losing its distinct zip code in 1991. He welcomed the bill as an opportunity to restore their rightful identity and correct sales tax distribution issues.

Centennial Mayor Stephanie Piko mentioned various challenges faced by communities lacking a single zip code related to public safety, business operations, insurance coverage, and mail delivery.

The bill instructs the United States Postal Service to assign distinct ZIP Codes where needed. Many communities without unique codes experience economic setbacks like lost sales tax revenue or inefficient emergency responses due to postal confusion.

Previous attempts at obtaining new ZIP Codes through petitions often face rejection without appeal options for up to ten years unless Congress intervenes; similar measures were last enacted under 2006's Post Accountability Enhancement Act.

Current cosponsors include Reps Byron Donalds (FL-19), Morgan Griffith (VA-09), Young Kim (CA-40), Nick LaLota (NY-01), Troy Nehls (TX-22), Brittany Pettersen (CO-07), Jared Moskowitz (FL-23), Nick Langworthy (NY-23), Bryan Steil (WI-01), Joe Courtney (CT-02), Scott Fitzgerald (WI-05) & Mikie Sherrill(NJ -11).
