Congresswoman Lauren Boebert has expressed her support for the Elizabeth School Board in Colorado amidst their legal battle with the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU). The lawsuit arises from the board's decision to remove a small percentage of books deemed inappropriate from school libraries.
Boebert stated, "I commend and fully support the Elizabeth School Board for their courage in standing up for our children and taking action to make sure their libraries have age-appropriate materials that provide educational value." She emphasized that the removal accounted for only 0.05% of library books, which contained graphic material.
The ACLU's lawsuit challenges this action, accusing it of infringing on parental rights and free speech. In response, Boebert criticized the organization, stating its "latest mission is to bully parents and school board members across the country who stand up for children and protect parental rights."
Boebert expressed pride in having the Elizabeth School District within her congressional district. "I stand with their School Board members, parents, and students who refuse to be bullied by lawsuits and will fight for the best interests of our children every day," she declared.
Earlier this year, Boebert joined other state officials—4th District State Board of Education Director Kristi Burton Brown, State Senator Rod Pelton, and State Representative Chris Richardson—in signing a letter supporting the school board.
Superintendent Dan Snowberger also addressed this issue in an op-ed detailing the board's decision-making process.
