LCC’s Ranch Horse team meets eligibility for collegiate competition. The four person team has met academic eligibility standards and has completed membership with the National Intercollegiate Ranch & Stock Horse Association (https://www.nirsha.org/). This allows the team to compete in the Collegiate National Championship in Amarillo, TX, this April.

The competition year for ranch horse/stock horse collegiate teams is the academic year, Sept. to May. LCC will compete as a Division II team and will begin official participation on February 24-26 at a collegiate competition at Colorado State University, Fort Collins.  This spring, LCC will be competing against many seasoned Division II teams, including Tarleton State University, Clarendon College, Oklahoma State University, Laramie CCC, Missouri State, TAMU, and Colorado’s Northeastern Junior College. The format for the Division II competition is any combination of four Novice and Non-Pro riders, with one rider being required to ride Non-Pro.

LCC is headed to an open practice ranch horse show Feb. 10-12 in Lyons, Kansas at the Bar4Bar Event Center, and this practice show will help LCC’s staff to determine who rides Non-Pro as LCC’s team members each qualify for Novice eligibility.  LCC’s team consists of first-year students studying Equine Business, Horse Training Management, and a pre-requisite track for nursing. Savanna Mauch is the Head Coach, and Kelli Gaines is an Advisor for the team. LCC is excited to support its student-athletes with opportunities such as Ranch Horse competitions.
