COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Fresno State junior Matthew Manganello has been named the Mountain West Men’s Golfer of the Week, while Nevada’s Alex Maxwell was named the MW Men’s Golf Freshman of the Week. On the women’s side, New Mexico junior Myah McDonald is the MW Women’s Golfer of the Week and San José State’s Rebecca Gyllner earned MW Women’s Golf Freshman of the Week.
This is the second weekly/monthly Conference honor for Manganello, McDonald and Gyllner and first for Maxwell.
MEN’S GOLFER OF THE WEEK
MATTHEW MANGANELLO, FRESNO STATE
- Junior, Las Vegas, Nevada / East Career and Technical Academy
- Finished tied for sixth after shooting a career-best 54-hole score of 13-under 203 at the John Burns Intercollegiate.
- Carded a lower score than 9-of-12 top-100 golfers in the field.
- Recorded a single-round career best of 65 on the last day of the tournament.
- The three-round score of 203 is seventh-best in program history.
ALEX MAXWELL, NEVADA
- Mandurah, Australia / Mandurah Catholic College
- Playing in first-ever collegiate event, the John Burns Intercollegiate, finishing tied for 38th place.
- Shot a three-under par 213 for the tournament.
- Opened the weekend shooting a four-under 68, carding five birdies in the first round.
MYAH MCDONALD, NEW MEXICO
- Junior, Kaneohe, Hawaii / Mid-Pacific Institute
- Competing at The Show at Spanish Trail, carded a career-best nine-under par 207, while earning medalist honors.
- Also recorded a single-round career low 68 in the opening round of the tournament.
- In a two-shot victory, defeated 10 top-100 players, while leading New Mexico to a third-place team finish.
REBECCA GYLLNER, SAN JOSÉ STATE
- Gavle, Sweden
- Helped lead San José State to a victory over No. 1 Stanford in the Battle of the Bay, winning 3-2-1.
- In 18 holes, tied the No. 1 World Amateur, Rose Zhang.
- Won the 18th and final hole to secure the tie.
