Otero Junior College issued the following announcement on Nov. 18.
Otero Junior College is set to graduate its sixth class of Medical Laboratory Technicians this semester. Medical Laboratory Technicians perform procedures, tests and apply strategies to analyze and record patient results through various methods of testing. The data they provide gives physicians valuable diagnostic and treatment information.
Students prepare for a career as a Medical Laboratory Technician through online/hybrid formats, classroom laboratory practice and supervised clinical experience. These students complete classes in general education along with hematology, clinical chemistry, clinical microbiology, immunology, transfusion medicine, urinalysis, parasitology and mycology.
The MLT program is designed for students to graduate with an Associate of Applied Science degree in five semesters. Three semesters are spent at the OJC campus and two semesters are partially spent in clinical rotations at an affiliated clinical facility.
“Graduates are entering a high demand field which serves a vital function in patient care,” stated Angela Tarrant, Director of the Medical Laboratory Technician and Phlebotomy Program, “At OJC they receive the necessary training to complete these tasks effectively and efficiently.”
Enrollment is currently open for the MLT, and all programs for Spring Semester. For questions regarding the MLT program, contact Angela Tarrant at (719) 384-6813 or mlt@ojc.edu.
