Cost of education decreases for all Trinidad State College students in 2022-23 school year

Tuition rates for Colorado residents attending Trinidad State College dropped by 1.6% during the 2022-23 school year, as revealed in the most recent report, according to the latest disclosure from the National Center for Education Statistics.

For the 2022-23 academic year, Colorado residents paid $5,194 to attend the four-year public college, which is $85 less than the $5,279 charged in the 2021-22 school year.

Non-resident students faced tuition costs that were 60.1% higher than those for in-state students, amounting to $8,314 in 2022-23. This represented a 3.9% decrease from the $8,648 charged in the previous year.

Approximately 75% of the undergraduate student body at Trinidad State College are Colorado residents. Students from other states make up about 21%, while international students account for 3%.

Data indicates that every full-time undergraduate who enrolled at Trinidad State College in 2022-23 received some form of student financial aid. Specifically, 216 students were awarded grants or scholarships totaling $1.9 million, and 43 students obtained student loans exceeding $268,813.

Among all undergraduates, 986 students benefited from grants or scholarships amounting to $8 million. Additionally, 195 students borrowed a combined total of $1.3 million in federal student loans.

Undergraduate education costs have seen a significant increase over the past few decades. Data shows a 169% rise in the average total cost, including tuition, fees, room, and board, between 1980 and 2020.

According to a 2023 College Board report, in-state students at public universities paid an average of $11,260, while out-of-state students paid $29,150 in the 2023-24 academic year.

Meanwhile, student loan debt has steadily increased over the last 30 years, reaching $1.75 trillion in 2024, averaging a total of $28,950 per borrower. Federal loans make up 92% of the debt, with over half of students at both public and private four-year colleges graduating with student loans.
