Cañon City officials announced on April 10 updates regarding the ongoing construction along North 9th Street, detailing progress in both the north and south sections of the project.
The project is significant for local infrastructure improvements, aiming to enhance stormwater management, water services, and road conditions. The work is expected to impact traffic patterns in the area as construction continues.
For the northern section from Meadows Avenue to Washington Street, city officials said that stormwater infrastructure has been completed and all inlet boxes have been installed. Crews have started installing curb and gutter sections on both sides of the road. In addition, some new and replaced water services have been put in place to help prevent future leaks and support potential new business development. The city’s contractor will soon begin removing existing asphalt in preparation for paving. Officials noted that traffic patterns will change as work progresses and advised residents to watch for updates about travel direction changes.
In the southern section from Mystic Avenue to Meadows Avenue, progress has reached Whipple Avenue where stormwater installation will stop. The water line installation will continue north toward Harding Avenue after connections are made south of Forest Avenue. A concrete box culvert for the Hydraulic Ditch is scheduled for its final concrete pour on Friday, April 10, with backfilling planned next week ahead of the ditch’s water season start. Work on curbs, gutters, and sidewalks is set to begin soon.
City officials encourage residents to stay informed about upcoming changes related to this major infrastructure effort.
