The Cañon City Parks Department announced on April 7 that its annual Arbor Day celebration will take place at Rudd Park at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, April 24, 2026. The event will include a tree planting, short talks about Arbor Day, refreshments and cookies, and a giveaway of 50 saplings to attendees.
The city has participated in the nationwide Arbor Day program since first receiving recognition in 1980 due to its tree maintenance efforts and Dutch Elm Disease Program. To qualify for this designation, communities must adopt a city tree ordinance, maintain a comprehensive urban forestry program, and observe Arbor Day each year.
Residents are encouraged to join the celebration to learn fun facts about trees and their importance in the community. The event aims to promote awareness of the value of trees and support ongoing efforts to enhance Cañon City’s urban forest.
In addition to the upcoming festivities, the city offers a tree voucher program for residents who have lost street trees or wish to plant new ones. More information about this program is available by calling the Parks Department or visiting their website at https://www.canoncity.org/466/Tree-Voucher-Program.
The department invites all community members to participate in planting trees for future generations.
